Cover crop, fish sale offered by SWCD

The Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is offering a fish and cover crop sale this fall.

Lucas SWCD has partnered with Walnut Creek Seeds to offer two fall cover crops, a garden late cover multi-species mix and Austrian winter pea, both of which are well-suited for gardens in northwest Ohio. Cover crops planted in the fall help protect the soil over winter and revitalize it for spring planting. Each mix is $7.50 per pound bag. Deadline to order cover crop mixes is October 3.

To order, visit LucasSW CD.org/covercrops or call 419-893-1966.

Mixes can be picked up from the SWCD office on or after October 10.

Lucas SWCD also is partnering with Fender’s Fish Hatchery, from Baltic, Ohio, to offer new and established pond owners the opportunity to stock their ponds conveniently and at a low cost.

Anyone considering stocking their pond in the near future may take advantage of this opportunity. Four different types of fish fingerlings, ranging one to six inches in size depending on species, are available through the sale for $1.08 or less per

fish. The species include largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill and fathead minnows.

Also available is an allnatural pond conditioner in one and five gallon sizes.

The deadline to place an order is October 6. The pickup date is October 13, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Lucas County Fairgrounds, Maumee.

To place an order, visit LucasSWCD.org/fishsale or call or stop by the office at 130-A West Dudley Street, Maumee.

Both sales requires preordering with either cash, check, or credit card.
