Preschool trick or treat returns
After a multi-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the Holland preschool trick or treat is returning. Area youngsters and their caregivers are invited to participate in the 10th event to be held from 10:30 to noon, Friday, October 28, at the Lodge at Strawberry Acres and Holland Branch Library.
Hosted by the Village of Holland, Holland-Springfield Journal, Dwelling Place, Holland Library and Walker Funeral Homes, the event provides a safe alternative to evening trick or treat and affords the early-to-bed crowd a chance to enjoy Halloween.
“We are really looking forward to seeing costumed preschoolers once again,” said Leslie Ferman, co-organizer, noting that in 2019 more than 150 children visited the lodge and library.
The lodge hall will be lined with groups and organizations handing out treats and hosting activities, including the Dwelling Place and Community Development committee, which coordinate the event.
In addition to treats and activities, there also will be visits from the Chick-fil-A cow and other mascots who will be on hand to greet youngsters, and members of the Dwelling Place will assist children with age-appropriate craft projects.
There will be small pumpkin decorating sponsored by Walker Funeral Homes and Florian Insurance will provide cider and donuts.
In the lodge, there also will be a “teal pumpkin” station for children with food allergies. A variety of non-food treats will be handed out.
After visiting the lodge, parents may walk children down a decorated path to the library, where there will be a variety of Halloween activities and treats.
Parked in the lodge drive between the two buildings will be the Springfield Township Fire Department and Holland Police Department vehicles. Deputy Aalea Robertson of the township police department also will be on hand. First responders will distribute treats, safety literature and display fire and police equipment for youngsters to explore.
This year’s participants also include Great Lakes Audiology, Hall family, Metroparks Toledo, Scott Stigall of State Farm Insurance and Springfield Local Schools.
