Happy Holland Days set for Dec. 2

Families, friends and area residents are invited to the Holland Branch Library and Strawberry Acres Park for the third “Happy Holland Days.” The Village of Holland and Community Development Committee organize the event, which begins with activities in the library at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, December 2.

Happy Holland Days replaces the annual tree lighting ceremony and features family activities, entertainment, food and a special visitor from the North Pole.

Activities at the library will culminate with the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus at 4:15 p.m. The couple will be transported to the library by the Springfield Township Fire Department and will board a decorated utility vehicle, which will take them to the lodge.

Children can visit with Santa from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., and additional activities will be offered at the lodge by Compelled Church.

In addition, Scott Stigall of State Farm is sponsoring complimentary photos with Santa. Again this year, Walker Funeral Homes will provide cookies and milk for children. At 5:45 p.m., members of the Springfield High School band will perform holiday tunes outside near the Christmas tree, which will be lit at 6 p.m., to conclude festivities.

The new tree was donated by Hoen’s Landscape and Garden Center.
