Maumee Valley Adventurers, a hike, bike and travel club dedicated to providing low-cost recreation opportunities for all ages, will hold a community open house on Saturday, April 8.
The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the King Road Branch Library, 3900 King Road, Toledo.
Members will be available to talk about what they have to offer and invite members of the community to join their activities.
Three workshops will be presented during the open house:
•10 a.m.–How to get involved in MVA, by Scott Carpenter
•11 a.m.–Bike touring 101, by Nancy Beeman
•1:15 p.m.–Cycling Without Age, by Keith Webb MVA was formed a dozen years ago and hosts weekly group walks and bike rides, a popular winter travel circle speakers’ series, bike touring, social events and four annual bicycle tours that are the organization’s primary fundraisers. It currently has more than 250 members.
MVA is a co-sponsor with We Are Traffic of the region’s Cycling Without Age chapter, giving bike rides to people who cannot ride on their own. One of its bicycles can accommodate a wheelchair.
The organizations also work together on the annual Ride of Silence, held in May to remember those killed in bicycling accidents and to promote safety awareness at the start of the cycling season.
