Holland adds officer to police force

The Village of Holland welcomed a new officer to its police force.

At the December 13 meeting, council approved the appointment of Richard Smoot, pending passage of a physical exam. At press time, his start date and salary were yet to be determined.

Sworn in by Village Solicitor Paul Skaff, Officer Smoot previously worked for Clay Township and will be employed full time with the village. Other Business In other business, council:

•Approved a change order for the Hall Street project that resulted in a cost reduction of $8,409.

“That’s good news for us,” said Clerk/Treasurer Lyn Krasula, noting the change was due to an adjustment in the final quantity of material needed for construction.

 

•Renewed CMI support in 2023 for the clerk/treasurer’s department at a cost of $12,233.

 

•Upheld a planning commission recommendation for Jiffy Lube at 1411 South Mc-Cord Road. Council approved zoning as a planned unit development with a 25-foot frontage, five-foot side setback and no rear setback.

 

•Paid bills totaling $69,889. They also authorized Ms. Krasula to pay any remaining year-end bills upon approval of the mayor.

The next meeting of village council will be at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 3, in council chambers, 1245 Clarion Avenue, and is open to the public.
