SCHOOL NEWS
From the Desk of Principal Andy Evans
As the weather begins to change, students are wearing extra layers of clothes. Please try to label tags inside sweatshirts, jackets, etc. This is the time of the year that our lost and found starts to grow, and most of the items go unclaimed. Students often take their items out to recess and leave them there. Our staff does their best to remind the students, but we still end up with a collection.
I told you last month about the TikTok challenge encouraging students to destroy restrooms. Sadly, we have learned that there is a challenge for each month of the school year. All are particularly disturbing. October involves slapping an adult. While I don’t anticipate this being an issue in our school, I do encourage parents/guardians to have discussions with their children about the serious nature of information found on social media platforms and the potential harm that TikTok challenges will bring to the students involved, innocent bystanders and facilities.
Important Dates
September 15 to October 15: Hispanic Heritage Month.
October 11 to 15: Stomp Out Bullying Week.
October 12: Hawk Walk.
October 18 to 22: Scholastic Book Fair (details below).
November 1: Trunk or Treat, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Scholastic Book Fair
We are excited to have the Scholastic Book Fair return to the school October 18 through 22. This will only be open to students, but there will be several parent volunteers assisting the students that week. Students will visit the book fair with their classes and be able to create a wish list. After that, there will be times throughout the week for them to come to the fair to make purchases.
Students of the Week
The following students were selected as Students of the Week for showing Hawk Way core value of responsibility. Way to go friends. They are: kindergarten, Aiden; first grade, Jaxon; second grade, Tessa; third grade, Craig; fourth grade, Mohammed, and fifth grade, Charlie.
Birthday Treats
At the beginning of the year we sent out district guidelines for our school year. One of the guidelines is that birthday treats are not permitted. This includes individually packed food items. We do allow students to bring in non-edible things to share with students like pencils. Please try to communicate with your teachers prior to bringing in birthday items. Thank you for understanding.
Holland Parent Council
Please consider attending Holland Parent Council (HPC) meetings this year. They have already planned some terrific events, and they are hoping to be able to do much more later in the year. Meetings are every third Tuesday (with the exception of a couple meetings) at 6:30 p.m., in the cafeteria as follows: October 19, November 16, December 14, January 18, February 15, March 15, April 12 and May 10.
Fund-raiser Update
The Choice Fund-raising ended on Thursday. Thank you to the HPC volunteers for helping with the prizes. Delivery for all items sold will be on November 8. Please watch for future communication from this newsletter or HPC for instructions on how it will all be distributed. HPC thanks you for your continued support.

HPC is excited to announce a Trunk or Treat event for Monday, November 1, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. More details will be coming. If you are interested in helping, they can be reached through the following: email at hpcinform@gmail.com or Facebook at HPC Holland Parent Council.
