Principal’s Message

We hope everyone made it through the most recent weather without any difficulty.

Every now and then, I appreciate the break from our busy lives.

As we return this week, please have your child bring boots for recess.

If not, they will need to stay on the blacktop only.

I try to keep all of the ‘new’ information at the start of my messages.

However, there is a lot of additional information that remains relevant that also has been included, like:

•If any student needs a winter coat, contact the office.

•If there is any family in need of food, toiletries or basic supplies, please know there are several groups in the area ready to help out. Please go to drive.google.com/file/d/15vcFz078J4xOtXKKbuVcVpZ2M1ZTbpY/view?usp=sharing) for more details.

2022-2023 Springfield Jumpstart

We would like to share information about the start of school in the fall of 2022. Springfield Local School District is excited to begin a new tradition entitled, Springfield Jumpstart, with the goal of providing a more personal touch to start the school year. In lieu of a separate open house, each school (pre-kindergarten to third grade and fourth and fifth grade) will provide an opportunity for kindergarten through fifth grade homeroom teachers to meet with families individually and assess students during 45- minute appointments over a four-day period.

This will give families and students a special time to get to know teachers, see the classroom, drop off supplies, tour the building and take care of any start-of-school housekeeping issues, like updating contact information, paying fees, etc. There will be no classes for any kindergarten through fifth grade student(s) on these dates: August 24 to 29; only pre-scheduled appointments with teachers.

Families of students entering first through fifth grades will receive an email with a link to make an appointment with their students’ teachers in May 2022.

As the start of the school year nears, visit the Springfield website for all 2022-23 back to school information, including supply lists, calendars and important dates.

We thank you for your continued support and look forward to meeting you in August.

Important 2022-23 School Dates

Tuesday, August 30: first day of school (first through fifth grades); kindergarten, boys only.

Wednesday, August 31: kindergarten, girls only.

Thursday, September 1: first day of school for all kindergarten students.

Announcing Summer Spark

Springfield Local School District is excited to kick off a new summer program entitled, Summer Spark, for students entering kindergarten through eighth grades.

The program will provide students with access to books, learning stations and outreach activities.

We are partnering with several community organizations to connect students and families to experiences beyond the classroom walls. Weekly themes will be incorporated into the learning stations and outreach activities.

Additionally, students will earn points for participating in the program and reading books at home.

A district van will be located outside of our elementary buildings and middle school for approximately two hours, Monday through Friday, starting Monday, June 6.

The last scheduled visit will be held on August 5. The district van will not host the program during the week of July 4 to 8.

Families may sign up using the registration link that will be available in April 2022.
