Holland Intermediate

SCHOOL NEWS

From the Desk of Principal Andy Evans Thank you to the nearly 150 VIPs who attended our first event on Friday. It was a terrific event and the students were so happy to take part. We know it is difficult for people to get time off work, but it is great to have people back in the building. It truly takes a village to support each and everyone of these students. Also, thank you to our awesome HPC for making the event so special.

Hidden Cedars Fire

Many people have already been reaching out to the district asking how they can assist the families displaced by Saturday’s fire. Many families were displaced and lost everything. The fire impacted multiple families of the Springfield Local School District, including Holland Intermediate. The district leaders met Monday morning to coordinate a plan that will allow for community assistance. In the meantime, I would encourage those wanting to help to reach out to the local chapter of Red Cross.

Non-bus Riders In case you missed my email earlier this week, there was a slight change to dismissal. We are now releasing the non-bus riders before the bus riders. This will be approximately 2:13 p.m. The only real difference is that parents parked in the football lot will need to walk up to the building a few minutes earlier. So far, we have been able to speed up the dismissal process.

Important Message from Transportation Department As many of you are likely aware, Springfield Schools, like the rest of the nation, is short staffed in the transportation department. Currently, we find ourselves with an even greater temporary shortage of drivers. Our entire transportation department, as well as staff from other departments are being called upon to drive routes. We’re also combining routes and getting very creative on how we schedule personnel to avoid cancelling routes altogether as neighboring districts are having to do. Here are some things we are asking of parents to assist us in being as efficient as possible during this shortage:

•Please be advised that this can cause greater variance in pick-up and drop offs than normal, so please help us by having your student at their stop earlier (an additional five to 10 minutes) than usual.

•Also, if a stop is missed, please call the building to report this in order to receive a faster response time.

•Additionally, following up that call with an email to scottbrooker@springfieldschools. org and heatherhawk @springfield-schools.org will help us to investigate the problem and get it resolved for the future with much more efficiency.

•Finally, if you know anyone who has or wants to get their CDL and bus driver endorsement, we are happy to meet with them and help get them started.

We sincerely appreciate your assistance and understanding of this situation.

Mrs. Brown’s Update: Kids Heart Challenge

As of February 10, we have raised more than $7,500 for the American Heart Association. Donations were accepted until February 14. Currently we have 39 fourth grade students and 54 fifth grade students eligible to play in the dodgeball game against the teachers.

Mrs. Witte’s class is rocking it with the highest number of students raising money (14) and the most money raised ($1,715).
