SCHOOL NEWS
From the Desk of Principal Andy Evans
It was so much fun seeing the students participate in Red Ribbon Week. I tried to share some of the participants on our Holland Intermediate Facebook page, but it is hard to keep up sometimes.
Thank you to all of the families (staff included) who participated in the Trunk or Treat on Thursday. It was typical chilly weather, but there was a lot of candy and creativity to be seen that evening. I truly believe there were more than 500 people in attendance. It was amazing.
Finally, thanks to all of the parents/family members that were able to attend the first character recognition breakfast on Friday. It was a great show of support for the outstanding work of several students.
Restroom Issues
It troubles me to even write this, but our restrooms continue to get trashed on an almost daily basis. Some issues have been typical, like paper towels on the floor and water splashed around. However, the behavior has escalated to more disappointing actions. Objects are being thrown in toilets and urinals.
Stall walls are written on and doors have been broken off. Some other things are too disturbing to write on here.
As a staff, we have been very proactive with visiting the classrooms and having these discussions. We have instituted some various rules about time of use and adult supervision. Personally, I don’t like making so many rules, but it is clear that we have students with bad intentions. If a student is caught intentionally doing things to the restrooms, then strong consequences will be considered. Please have these discussions with your child about being respectful to property. Thank you.
Introducing Pumpkin Spice
Mrs. Berry has a class pet. We would like to introduce Pumpkin Spice. She is the calf we adopted. She lives on a dairy farm in Ohio. We will be receiving information, live stream videos and picture updates as she grows into a dairy cow. We will have virtual field trips to the farm and learn about the dairy farms, the cows and milk. This is a great learning opportunity for the students, and they love watching our calf grow.
Fund-raiser Pick Up
If your child sold items at the fund-raiser, then items will be available for pick up on November 7, between 2:30 to 6 p.m. The items can be picked up in the cafeteria through the back door.
Gamers of the Week
Each week our teams nominate one student as their gamer of the week. The category they are being selected for is adaptability. The following were this week’s gamers of the week. Fourth grade teams: Sonic Racing, Lyla; Animal Crossing, Amelia, and Marvel- ous, Kora.
Fifth grade teams: Team Legend, Selena; Pac Peeps, Paisley; Minecraft, Ezra, and Team Splatoon, Tessa.
