Jessica Ford is no longer acting county administrator. At the January 10 meeting, the Lucas County commissioners appointed Ms. Ford county administrator Her hourly salary set at $70 has been adjusted to $77 retroactive to October 4, when she was initially appointed as acting administrator.
Ms. Ford takes over for Megan Vahey Casiere who resigned to become CEO for the Employers’ Association in Maumee.
In other personnel matters, the commissioners employed Courtney Fleck, Rocky Livingston and Danielle Sindell to specialist 2 positions in the department of job and family services at an hourly rate of $17.51.
County Engineer Projects The commissioners awarded several road projects as recommended by County Engineer Mike Pniewski.
Regarding the Jeffers bridge resurfacing and replacement project, Gerken Paving of Napoleon was awarded the 2023 Ohio Public Works Commission resurfacing for $1.34 million, and Vernon Nagel of Napoleon was awarded the Jeffers bridge replacement for $463,390. Gerken Paving also will be resurfacing Bancroft Street at McCord Road for $412,320.
A contract also was approved with U.S. Utility Contractor of Perrysburg for $148,604. The company will replace the traffic signal at King Road and the University Parks trail.
Vernon Nagel was awarded the contract for the Sylvania Avenue and Kilburn Road roundabout project for $934,205.
In addition, the board approved a cost estimate of $860,000 for the 2023 thin overlay project. The project entails asphalt pavement resurfacing on 5.66 miles of roadway at Dorr Street and Garden, Heller, Hite, Waterville Neapolis and Perrysburg Holland roads.
The commissioners authorized a reduction in vehicle weight limits on the Centennial Road bridge. The reduction applies to special hauling vehicles and emergency vehicles. Vehicles complying with the standard legal load limit of 36 tons will not be impacted.
“The bridge is in overall good condition, but was not designed to carry these heavier loads,” Mr. Pniewski explained. Other Business In other business, the commissioners: •Entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Area Office on Aging of northwest Ohio for meals to senior citizens residing in the county and outside the Toledo city limits. The memorandum runs through December 31, 2024 at a cost of $232,000, which will be paid using community development bock grant funds.
•Approved an agreement between the county sheriff’s office and Heritage Health Solutions for management of inmate medical claims. The company will receive $50 per claim with an estimated annual amount of $4,900.
•Authorized job and family services to purchase 425 Chromebooks from CDW-G for $82,524. They will be used for Supplemental nutrition assistant program employment training.
•Approved an agreement with Recycle Waste Services of Sylvania for maintenance of the walking floor trailer at a cost of $20,000.
•Authorized solid waste management to apply for a U.S. EPA Solid Waste Infrastructure for recycling grant. Funds of up to $4 million are available.
•Approved the 2023 radiological emergency response plan. Changes to the plan are minor and limited primarily to internal positions, title changes and grammatical adjustments.
