Junior League of Toledo provides 25,000 diapers thanks to funding from GTCF

The Greater Toledo Community Foundation approved $4,000 in grants from the Toledo Rotary Foundation Club Foundation Fund to support the Junior League of Toledo’s community project, As We Grow Diaper Bank. The grant has allowed As We Grow to distribute their 200,000th diaper since its inception in 2020. Providing basic essentials, such as diapers, helps to build stronger families and decreases adverse early experiences for babies and toddlers. As We Grow aims to improve the lives of families in the Toledo area by alleviating diaper need, which is the lack of sufficient diapers to keep a child clean, dry and healthy.

•One in two families in the United States experiences diaper need.

•Because childcare centers require caregivers to supply diapers for children to attend, families experiencing diaper need are unable to access childcare that allows caregivers to attend work or school.

The funds awarded have provided more than 25,000 diapers to 456 children, allowing parents to improve their child’s health and their family’s financial future. Based on a study published by the Connecticut Center for Economic Analysis, the impact of this number of diapers is estimated to have:

•Allowed 60 caregivers to attend work for approximately 2,500 hours when they would have otherwise been unable.

•Prevented 70 diaper rashes.

•Prevented 4,380 days of children and families experiencing the effects of painful diaper rash, when rashes do occur.
