Maumee Valley Adventurers, a local hike, bike and travel club, will hold a community open house from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 2 at the Sylvania Branch Library, 6749 Monroe Street.
Program and activity directors will be available to talk about upcoming walks, bicycle rides and tours, as well as the Cycling Without Age program and a newly acquired bicycle that can accommodate a wheelchair.
From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Nancy Beeman will give a presentation, “Bicycle Touring 101.” She will have her bike on hand, displaying the type of equipment she uses for touring, and participants are welcome to bring their own bikes.
MVA’s goal is to create a regional network of novice and seasoned cyclists interested in multi-day bicycle tours. The presentation will be a basic introduction to equipment and techniques.
Maumee Valley Adventurers’ mission is to educate and empower people of all ages, cultures and economic backgrounds by providing and advocating for affordable recreational and travel opportunities.
The non-profit organization sponsors weekly walks and bike rides, four annual bicycle tours and a 13-week Travel Circle lecture series.
In partnership with We Are Traffic, MVA also sponsors the local Cycling Without Age program, which provides rides to those who cannot ride themselves, using a specially equipped trishaw bicycle. The new wheelchair bicycle will allow the organizations to serve more people.
