LSWCD to offer rain barrel workshop this fall

The Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District (LSWCD) and Rain Garden Initiative are partnering with Perrysburg and the 577 Foundation to offer a Make and Take rain barrel workshop this fall.

Rain barrels are an easy and efficient way to manage storm water, while also saving money and resources. The workshop will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, September 13 at the 577 Foundation, 577 East Front Street, Perrysburg.

To register, visit the 577 Foundation’s website at 577foundation.recdesk.com/community/Home. Under the “classes and events” tab, filter by “nature.”

The cost is $35 per barrel, and includes all the necessary materials and tools. Space in each workshop is limited and pre-registration is required.

Participants will need 30 minutes to complete their barrels, and vehicles large enough to transport the rain barrel home–barrels measure approximately three feet tall and two feet wide.

During the workshop, attendees will learn the purpose of rain barrels and be led through a step-by-step process to make their own.

Rain barrels are made from recycled food-grade 55-gallon drums that are donated by local companies.

Call the LSWCD for more information on the workshop, registration, or rain barrels at 419-893-1966 extension 5 or 419-377-0065.
