Lucas County extends dog license renewal deadline to February 28

The Lucas County commissioners have extended the dog license renewal period to February 28, due to continued COVID-19 economic challenges facing residents.

The one-month extension will allow time for dog owners to purchase licenses and comply with state law without being charged a penalty.

A one-year license purchased on or before February 28 is $25 for each dog. Dog owners also may purchase a three-year tag for $75 or a lifetime tag for $250.

Ohio law requires all owners of dogs three months and older to register their dogs in the county in which the dog is kept. Among other benefits, the annual tags help ensure lost dogs can be reunited with their owners quickly.

Pet owners can purchase their tags in person at the Lucas County auditor’s office in One Government Center, suite 600, or online using the dog tag renewal system.

Tags also can be purchased in person at participating agencies. Payments may be made by cash, check, or credit card.
