The Lucas County commissioners are issuing and selling bonds totaling $108,073,000 for a number of projects.
At the August 23 meeting, the board of commissioners approved 12 bond sales, the largest two of which are $37,455,000 for Glass City Center, Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites by Hilton, and $47,300,000 for work on the former SeaGate Convention center, all in downtown Toledo. They also approved the sale of up to $7 Continued from page 1 million for capital facility improvements to the convention center.
An additional $4 million in bonds is to be sold for improvements to Huntington Center.
The remaining eight bonds totaling $12,318,000 are dedicated toward sewer and water district improvements throughout the county.
They include sewer rehabilitation and Swan Creek siphon, $600,000; sanitary sewer cleaning and repair, $2.5 million; sanitary sewer at Breckenridge and Spencer-Sharples pump station replacement, $300,000; sanitary sewer at Forest Lakes and Deerpointe pump station rehabilitation, $335,000; sanitary sewer at Angola Road, $800,000; tap projects, $5.1 million; site and facility improvements at the water resource recovery facility (WRRF), $2,112,000, and grit chamber and screen improvements at the WRRF, $570,000.
Other Business
In other business, the commissioners: •Amended a contract with Harbor Inc. to provide yearround employment services for eligible youth through the comprehensive case management employment program. The amendment reflects a cost increase to a total of $400,000 for the 2022 fiscal year.
•Employed several people to fill open positions in several departments.
They are Halle Bohannon, canine care technician in the department of canine care and control, $15.88 per hour; Jodie McKee, establishment supervisor in the child support enforcement division of job and family services, $26.57 per hour, and Marcus Sautter, part time, equipment technician, department of emergency services, $20 per hour.
•Extended a lease agreement with the county guardianship board for office space at 701 Adams Street. The lease runs from September 1 to August 31, 2023 at a cost of $28,350.
•Transferred county owned parcels to the Ohio Department of Transportation. The parcels are west of Dorr Street and the I-475 interchange.
According to Mike Pniewski, county engineer, they are “remnant parcels that are no longer needed.”
•Entered into an agreement with Sofia Quintero Art and Cultural Center of Toledo for the youth works enrichment program at a cost of $15,000. The agreement runs through June 30, 2023.
•Certified a list of delinquent sewer charges that will be placed as a lien on each property’s tax duplicate.
•Elected Tina Skeldon Wozniak as president of the joint board of county commissioners for Fulton and Lucas counties.
•Approved a subgrant agreement between the Ohio and county departments of job and family services for non-custodial parent access and visitation services with the county being reimbursed up to $28,530 while providing a match of $3,170.
•Entered into an agreement with juvenile court for the provision of access and visitation program services through June 30, 2023 at a cost not to exceed $31,700.
•Agreed to advertise for domestic violence shelter providers.
