Make and take rain barrel workshop

The Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District (LSWCD) and Rain Garden Initiative is partnering with the Olander Park System in Sylvania to offer a Make and Take Rain Barrel Workshop this summer. Rain barrels are an easy and efficient way to manage storm water, while also saving money and resources.

During the workshop, attendees will learn the purpose of rain barrels and be led through a step-by-step process to make their own. Rain barrels are made from recycled, food-grade 55-gallon drums that are donated by local companies.

The cost is $35 per barrel, and includes all necessary materials and tools. Space in the workshop is limited and pre-registration is required.

Participants will need a vehicle large enough to transport the rain barrel home–the barrels are approximately three feet tall and two feet wide.

The workshop will be held Friday, August 6, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Olander Park, open air shelter No. 2, 6930 West Sylvania Avenue, Sylvania. To register for the workshop, visit LucasSWCD.org/olander.
