Several parents and students addressed the Springfield Board of Education September 22 to voice their opposition to the district’s mask mandate which applies to students, staff and visitors at all school facilities.
The staff of the Holland-Springfield Journal has neither the personnel nor the resources to fact check the varied arguments presented regarding the use of masks as a form of protection against the spread of COVID-19.
Additionally, the Journal will not be drawn into the current political environment surrounding this public health issue and ambivalence toward acceptance of truth should it fail to meet the views of readers.
The Journal follows the Society of Professional Journalists code of ethics, the preamble of which reads in part, “public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. Ethical journalism strives to ensure the free exchange of information that is accurate, fair and thorough.”
