Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity celebrates 500th roof replacement

In 2013 Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity (MVHFH) added roof replacements to their affordable housing initiatives in Lucas County. On May 29, MVHFH celebrated the completion of its 500th replacement.

“Today is a celebration of the efforts being made in housing preservation and what that means for people living in Toledo neighborhoods,” said Erin McPartland, executive director of MVHFH. While Habitat for Humanity is known for their new home builds, affiliates like MVHFH also pursue affordable housing through home preservation. “By completing crucial roof replacement projects, we can help homeowners stay in the neighborhoods they love, making our community stronger.”

These replacements are made possible through vital and generous partnerships with U.S. Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur and the City of Toledo.

“Honored to join Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity, Mayor Kapszukiewicz, and local community advocates and housing leaders celebrate this milestone accomplishment,” said Rep. Kaptur (OH9).

“It is an investment in our neighborhood,” said Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz. “When we can funnel resources to where folks live, it’s that neighborhood investment that moves the needle.”

Roof replacements are also a product of partnerships with local organizations who donate their product and financial resources to complete projects. One of MVHFH’s longest partnerships is with Owens Corning.

Celebrating 500 roofs also marks a commitment to continue the work towards a world where everyone has a decent place to live. McPartland concludes, “While we celebrate this work, let’s not forget the neighbors of these 500 homes. There’s still more work to do, but I know our partners are committed to this work and to our neighborhoods.”
