New Sylvania police chief has local roots

A new police chief, with roots tied to the Holland area, was administered the oath of office at a September 6 Sylvania city council meeting.

Danilynn Miller was sworn in by retiring Chief Rick Schnoor, who is stepping down after 30 years of service.

A 1990 Anthony Wayne High School and Penta Career Center graduate, Chief Miller has worked in the department for 29 years, moving up through the ranks.

She was sergeant, then administrative sergeant followed by captain. She also is the treasurer of the Holland-Springfield-Spencer Historical Society.

Chief Miller is the daughter of historical society president Karla Miller. “She decided at age 11, this is where she planned to be one day,” said Mrs. Miller, adding, “I’m so proud of her.”
