Two Springfield Township properties that have been the subject of numerous calls to the Lucas County sheriff’s office are coming under notice.
At the July 24 meeting, Administrator Mike Hampton updated the trustees on issues at 319 Layer Road and 6622 Hill Avenue.
On July 14, a letter from the Lucas County prosecutor’s office was sent to the owners of the Layer Road property, he said, noting they reside in Glencoe, Arizona, and appear to be renting the home.
In the letter to Lance R. and Karen L. Williams, prosecutor Julia Bates pointed out there have been multiple sheriff’s deputies, arrests and incident reports at the property “which is currently being maintained as a legal nuisance.”
Ms. Bates wrote, “Issues at this property involve numerous bench warrant services, charges for drug possession and use including cocaine, animal complaints, cruelty and other animal problems, simple assault and numerous reports of criminal damage.”
She has ordered the homeowners to “immediately cease and desist from maintaining your property as a public nuisance.”
If the couple fail to remedy situation, Ms. Bates said her office “will commence a legal action for nuisance to order that your property be vacated and padlocked for one year and its contents sold.”
Mr. Hampton said similar action may be taken soon at the Hill Avenue property, listed by the county auditor’s office as owned by Donald H. Long.
“Their property happens to be even a worse situation,” the administrator explained, noting there have been more than 100 service calls involving drugs and violence.
“We are looking to go after these folks as well,” he added.
