The Ohio Turnpike is preparing for heavy Thanksgiving travel.
“For Thanksgiving, our goal is to meet the needs of holiday travelers at our 14 service plazas while keeping the health and safety of our customers and employees our top priority,” explained Andrew Herberger, service plaza operations director.
All service plazas are open, and there are currently no restrictions in effect but CDC-sanitization protocols will be followed, he said.
Mr. Herberger offered the following tips for a safe road trip this holiday season.
•Plan your route ahead of time on the Ohio Turnpike by noting the locations of service plazas and exploring the various concessions and amenities at ohioturn pike.org/travelers/serviceplazas.
•Don’t forget to pack hand sanitizer, masks and disinfecting wipes and light snacks.
In addition, make sure to carry emergency items such as jumper cables, first aid kit, shovel, flashlight, blankets, flares, tow rope, sand, ice scraper and cell phone with charger.
Food and retail services remain available throughout the holiday travel days although staffing is sometimes limited due to the national worker shortage.
Customers may encounter longer wait times and less options than usual during the holiday period.
“We appreciate your patience and remind everyone to be polite to those staff who are working to serve Ohio’s travelers throughout the holiday season,” Mr. Herberger said.
