Otterbein SeniorLife breaks ground on ‘The Railway’

Otterbein Sunset Village celebrated a momentous milestone on July 9, with the groundbreaking of The Railway, its newest independent living neighborhood.

The Railway will feature 30 brand-new-construction villas, each designed for maintenance-free, barrierfree living with high-end finishes and layouts ranging from 1,635 to 1,899 square feet. Deposits are now being accepted, with homes offering serene waterfront views in a beautifully walkable setting.

With nearly 100 attendees, the event drew representation from Otterbein SeniorLife, Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce, local dignitaries and—making a memorable entrance— the Sylvania Town Crier.

The ceremony reflected the richness of community connection and vision for the future. Guests heard heartfelt perspectives from the Otterbein Sunset Village Board, Otterbein SeniorLife Leadership, and Otterbein SeniorLife resident, Jim Kimble. The event was thoughtfully bookended in prayer by Pastor Vern Swett of Sylvania United Church of Christ, grounding the moment in gratitude and hope.

Despite early forecasts, the rain held off, allowing for a perfect photo opportunity, as the first shovels hit the soil. Following the ceremony, guests were invited to the Fieldstone Villas Clubhouse to enjoy refreshments and an exclusive preview of The Railway neighborhood, including videos, detailed floorplans, and a plat map showcasing the upcoming community layout.
