Penta BOE addresses personnel matters

At the February 14 meeting, the Penta Career Center Board of Education took action on a number of personnel matters.

The board hired several certified personnel. They are Thomas Bentley and Barrett Dorner, adult education public safety instructors, part time, $31 per hour through June 30.

Alexis Gomez was hired as an adult education instructor in phlebotomy, and Larry Pollock will be the adult education instructor in painting. Both are part time and will be paid $31 and $32 per hour, respectively, through June 30.

The school board accepted the resignation of Angela Gasiorowski, cafeteria worker, effective February 20.

They also hired Elizabeth Cook as a support staff secretary, beginning February 20.

Other Business

In other business, the school board:

•Renewed membership for 2024 in the Regional Growth Partnership of Northwest Ohio at a cost of $20,000.

•Approved courses of study for social studies and exercise science and sports medicine.

•Received an update on construction projects including renovations to cosmetology at the main campus and the interior of the Corporate Drive building in Holland.

Work is moving along said Ryan Lee, director. “Cosmetology equipment has arrived but has yet to be installed.

He added that interior walls are taking shape at Corporate Drive.

•Approved an internship this semester for scott Williams, a Bowling Green State University student. He will be working as a Counselor with Daniel Stoots.

•Heard from Kelsey Frazier, food service supervisor, regarding the possibility of the district adopting the community eligibility provision in fall 2024.

A USDA food and nutrition service program, CEP is a non-pricing meal service option for schools and school districts in low-income areas. It allows the nation’s highest poverty schools and districts to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without collecting household applications.

Instead, schools that adopt CEP are reimbursed using a formula based on the percentage of students categorically eligible for free meals based on their participation in other programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

•Announced that the eighth grade career expo will take place on February 27 and 28 at the main campus. Students from Penta’s 16-member school districts will visit the campus to learn more about skilled trades and career opportunities.

•Approved 24 requests to attend meetings, including the DECA state conference competition and Pace/OTDN spring conference.

The next board of education will be at 5:15 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, in the board room at the career center, 9301 Buck Road, Perrysburg Township, and is open to the public.
