Penta BOE welcomes new staff, approves personnel matters

At the September 11 meeting, the Penta Career Center board of education was introduced to new staff members.

They are Hayden Alley, social studies; Steve Byrd, transportation careers; Mykel Heberling, assistant supervisor; Elizabeth Kayser, small animal care; Linda Lohberger, job coach; Jen Myers, instructional aide; Sean Rizor, criminal justice and Kevin Smith, maintenance.

The board also met school resource officers Dustin Glass and Kurt Schroeder.

In addition, the board took action on other personnel matters.

They accepted the resignation of Jazmyne Kanavel, cafeteria worker, effective September 6.

The board also issued a one-year contract to Sarah Miller, assistant to the treasurer, effective October 1.

The board employed powersports and engine systems instructor Dennis Kajfasz, effective September 12.

In adult education, the board hired Ryan Lee, public safety part time, $33 per hour, and Katina Pattay, Aspire instructor, part time, $31 per hour.

Additionally, 10 people were employed as adult public safety instructors part time at $31 per hour. They are Jared Baker, Matthew Cooper, Dillon Flick, Thomas Fowler, Joseph Hoffman, Matthew Kamann, Michael Lord, Brandon Rosebrock, Mike Vajen and Wendy Waisner.

Other Business

In other business the school board:

•Authorized the school treasurer and superintendent to execute agreements with Rudolph Libbe Inc. for the HVAC, electrical and technology, non-trade package work for the E-Mobility lab project at a cost not to exceed $2.75 million

•Approved general fund appropriations of $44.24 million for fiscal year 2025. Revenues are projected at $42.99 million, with a beginning balance of $16.15 million.

•Accepted the list of guest service fees for the school year.

•Approved as a student teacher intern for the 2024-25 school year, Lucas Hites of Bowling Green State University. Hites will be interning with Jesse Thomas, social studies instructor.

•Approved 14 staff requests to attend professional meetings.

The next board of education meeting will be at 5:15 p.m., Wednesday, October 9, at the new Holland-Springfield branch campus of the career center, 1205 Corporate Drive, Holland, and is open to the public.
