At the April 13 Penta Career Center school board meeting, Lori Brodie, regional liaison to the Ohio Auditor of State, presented Treasurer Carrie Herringshaw and her staff with a certificate for “exemplary financial reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).”
The auditors examine bank reconciliations, receipts, disbursements, bank account balances, cash receipts, income tax receipts, payroll records and refunds.
They also look at expenditures for federal grants and make sure that funds are spent in accordance with federal guidelines. They review internal controls and verify that accounting practices follow prescribed government accounting standards.
In addition, they audit the annual financial statements and provide an opinion as to whether those statements are materially correct and fairly represent the financial condition of the school district.
At Penta, the auditors found clean and accurate record-keeping, which signifies the audit did not contain findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, single audit findings or any questioned costs.
Ms. Brodie said receipt of this honor “puts Penta in a select group.”
She noted that only 8 percent of the 5,900 audits performed receive a clean audit report.
Ms. Herringshaw commended her staff, Amy Seibel and Alexis Piper. “They do a really good job for us, and this is a testament to their due diligence and hard work.”
