Penta ‘Cruise-In’ draws largest crowd yet

More than 500 vehicles on display

On October 4, Penta Career Center hosted its 12th Cruise-In car show at the Perrysburg Township campus.

The decision to reschedule it from the previous week due to inclement weather proved a wise choice as clear skies and mild weather drew a large crowd. More than 500 classic and vintage vehicles were on display including cars, trucks and motorcycles. Vehicle owners were admitted free with a donation of nonperishable food or hygiene items to be donated to local charities to help area families in need.

In addition to cars, the cruise-in featured music, food and door prizes such as car care kits, gift certificates and products from several Penta programs.

Tours of the automotive technology and auto collision programs were offered. Students from Family, Career and Community Leaders of America coordinated a “kids garage” with activities for younger visitors.

The cruise-in was organized by the transportation programs and SkillsUSA, a leadership organization for careertechnical education students.

Bob Anderson, auto instructor, expressed appreciation to businesses for their contributions. They are Belle Tire, Snap-on Tools, Toledo Harley-Davidson, Midas, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Auto Value parts stores, Ag-Pro and Costa Oil-10 Minute Oil Change.

Awards were presented in several categories. They are Superintendent’s Choice–Sam Hornish, 1970 Volkswagen Transporter; Best Motorcycle–Roger Burke, 1977 Honda Goldwing, and Alumni Award–Phil and Maggie McGill, 1955 Chevrolet Nomad.

Superintendent Ed Ewers noted the students did an excellent job organizing the event and commended them for collecting a trailer full of nonperishable food and hygiene products.
