At the August 10 meeting, the Lucas County commissioners approved several personnel hirings.
In canine care and control, the commissioners appointed Caryssa Holmes and Ryan Rios to fill vacant, full-time technician positions. They will be paid $16.05 per hour.
The commissioners also appointed Michael Stormer of the county engineer’s office to serve as an alternate member to the Toledo-Lucas County Plan Commission.
In related personnel matters, they agreed to abolish two 911 computer network support technician positions in the department of emergency services.
Megan Vahey Casiere, county administrator, said the recommendation is being made due to a lack of work and can be abolished “as permitted by the applicable collective bargaining agreement.”
Other Business
In other business, the county commissioners:
•Approved the national opioid settlement as recommended by the state of Ohio. Under the proposal, Ohio will receive up to $804.87 million to be distributed as follows: 15 percent to the state; 30 percent to subdivisions such as townships and 55 percent to the One-Ohio Foundation.
•Accepted a grant from TCAP (Targeted Community Alternatives to Prison) for $2.24 million. The funding will be used to divert low-level felons from state incarcerations.
•Rejected and rebid the purchase of interoperable radio communications equipment for the Lucas County EMA.
“During the bid process, it was necessary to amend the specifications,” said Abby Buchhop, EMA director.
She noted both vendors had submitted bids based on the original specifications, necessitating the rebidding process.
