Right Direction, Perrysburg Twp. police to present ‘Pedal with Police’

The Right Direction, in conjunction with the Perrysburg Township Police Department, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio and Spoke Life Cycles, will present “Pedal with Police,” from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, August 8, at Cedar Creek Church, 29129 Lime City Road, Perrysburg.

Police Sergeant David Molter said the event is free and open to the public and will feature a youth skills camp at 3 p.m. followed by a pedal with police slow roll at 4 p.m.

At 2 p.m., a police skills competition will take place with awards presented to the top three teams that successfully navigate an “M” shaped obstacle course.

Area police department bike patrols interested in registering for the contest should call Sgt. Molter at 419-874-3551. There is a small registration fee for the police skills contest.

Rudy’s Dairy Depot will be on hand with complimentary ice cream for youth. There also will be water, beverages and food available for purchase.

Proceeds from the police competition will go to the Right Direction youth development program and Big Brothers Big Sisters with foods sales benefiting the police department’s community relations division and bike patrol.

The department’s ultimate goal is to grow the bike division, explained Sgt. Molter. “We want to get more bike units on the street,” he said, adding that the bike patrol has been shown to enhance and strengthen community relations.

He expressed appreciation to the Right Direction, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Spoke Life Cycles and Cedar Creek Church for their support.

“Without them this would not be possible,” he said.
