SHS to host voter registration and car wash drive thru event

Again this year, the Springfield High School basketball teams are partnering with the League of Women Voters to host a voter registration drive.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, on Constitution Day, Saturday, September 17, in front of the high school. Principal Robb Brown believes that hosting the drive on Constitution Day increases awareness and offers an opportunity to get the entire community involved.

Even those who have kept their voter registration information up to date can still stop by and have their cars washed. Those needing to register or update their registration information can do so while student athletes wash their cars. Mr. Brown said the right to vote can not be understated. He and the coaches stress the importance of educating and engaging students in activities that focus on citizenship.

“That includes celebrating the sacrifices and hard-won battles that took place in the early years of our democratic republic that ensures the right to vote for all Americans,” he added.
