SHS instructor receives personal finance award

Springfield High School educator Bonita Adams recently received the Distinguished Educator of Personal Finance award from Next Generation Personal Finance (NGPF). The mission of NGPF is to ensure that by 2030 all students will have taken at least one semester of courses in personal finance before graduating from high school. “I teach personal finance in my money management and finance foundations classes,” she said. According to NGPF, studies have shown that high school graduates with guaranteed financial education are 21 percent less likely to carry a balance on a credit card while in college; submit the FAFSA 3.5 percent more often, and use subsidized student loans 13 percent more frequently than peers without, saving an average of $1,300 in high-interest private debt per student.
