Bill Geha, Springfield Local Schools’ drug counselor has been named a Professional of the Year by Strathmore’s Who’s Who Worldwide.
This is the fifth time Mr. Geha–who also serves as Sylvania’s drug counselor– has received this recognition for his outstanding contributions and high level of success in education over a span of more than 50 years.
As a teacher, drug counselor and prevention specialist, he has traveled extensively throughout the United States spreading a drug free message.
The co-director along with Dr. Ken Newbury of America’s Pride Drug Prevention team of Toledo, has twice been named team of the year at the World Drug Conference.
The team worked with Navajos of New Mexico, the Cree in Canada and the Canadian and British governments on prevention.
In 2007, Mr. Geha began the PEACE project, an antibullying program which initially had 12 students.
Today, the program has more than 1,000 students, touching the hearts of youth who believe they “don’t fit in.” With help from the youth, he is raising the standard for respect worldwide.
For his contributions to drug prevention and antibullying, Mr. Geha has received national, state and local awards.
A member of the Lucas County opiate coalition, he also serves on the county suicide prevention coalition, the Springfield Area Prevention Coalition and the Sylvania Prevention Alliance.
“Through the years, I have had the privilege of working with amazing coworkers, parents and students who have touched the hearts of so many and changed the world,” he said.
A Toledo native, Mr. Geha has a bachelor of arts from the University of Toledo.
He and his wife Elizabeth have been married for more than 50 years and have four children, all in the field of education.
