Springfield Middle School’s Science Olympiad teams showcased their knowledge, teamwork and problem-solving skills at the Northwest Ohio Regional Tournament on March 15, hosted by Bowling Green State University. Competing against top schools in the region, the Blue Devils delivered an impressive performance, securing the third place trophy overall and earning a coveted spot in the Ohio Science Olympiad State Tournament, which will be held at the Ohio State University at the end of April.
Under the leadership of coaches Mike Ransford and Jamie Lenox, SMS students excelled across multiple events, earning numerous top rankings. Their hard work, dedication and passion for science were on full display as they competed in challenges ranging from Crime Busters and Codebusters to Microbe Mission and Dynamic Planet.

Fourth Place: Anatomy and Physiology—Elliot Rainey and Anna Luong; Air Trajectory—Mateo Magana and Todd Sheridan; Entomology— Elliot Rainey and Gabriella Old; Fossils—Alysenne Ellis and Anna Luong; Optics—Elijah Vercellotti and Autumn Grant, and Wind Power—Caleb Fox and Chase Young.
Fifth Place: Ecology— Katelyn Duke and Grant Brewis; Mission Possible— Chase Young and Elijah Vercellotti; Reach for the Stars—Vi Caldwell and Alysenne Ellis, and Write It, Do It—Emily Dunstan and Alysenne Ellis.
Sixth Place: Meteorology— Harper Smithback and Vi Caldwell, and Scrambler— Olivia Brigham and Liliana Mezano.
This outstanding achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students and coaches. As they set their sights on Columbus for the state tournament, we are incredibly proud of their success and know they will represent Springfield Middle School with excellence.
