Other Business

In other fire department business, the trustees:

•Approved the termination of Karen Bennett, dispatcher, and Allan Kiggins, firefighter/EMT, from the department.

Chief Cousino said the dispatcher, who served as needed on a contingent basis, has been inactive for a number of months.

Firefighter Kiggins, a parttime employee, had been out in accordance with the Family Medical Leave Act and failed to return to work after exhausting his leave, the chief explained.

•Learned that the fire department is once again staffing Springfield High School football games to provide emergency treatment for spectators, athletic trainers and players as needed.

•Heard from the fire chief that the department provided CPR training to 150 employees and a fire extinguisher course to 20 employees at Clarios; hosted a child seat fitting event for parents and caregivers at stations 51 and 53; performed fire safety inspections at district schools, and provided a medic unit for the Centurions’ annual motorcycle club rally.

•Learned that the chief and Assistant Chief Dave Moore attended the annual Ohio Fire Chiefs Fire and Rescue Officer Development conference.

“It was our first year back,” the chief said, noting the in-person conference covered officer development, human relations, wellness and safety.

Due to the Labor Day Holiday, the next trustees meeting will be at 5 p.m., Tuesday, September 7, at the township meeting room, 7617 Angola Road, and is open to the public. The meeting also can be viewed via the livestream at springfieldtownship.net.
