A Springfield Township trustee is running unopposed while the fiscal officer is facing a challenger in the November 7 general election.
The Lucas County Board of Elections posted the slate of candidates countywide, and residents had until August 9 to submit petitions for local offices.
In the township, Andrew Glenn of Raymill Road, will run unopposed for another four-year term as trustee. A trustee since 2004, he is seeking his sixth term. Current township fiscal officer Barbara Dietze of Wyandotte Boulevard, Maumee, is running for re-election. She was originally appointed to the position to replace John O’Neil in 2013 and is looking to secure a third term.
Ms. Dietze is challenged by Rachel Geiger of Empire Court. Mrs. Geiger is currently a member of the Springfield Local Schools board of education.
In the Village of Holland, Councilman Justin Hoen of Kipling Drive is seeking a four-year term. Springfield Local Schools board member Kenneth Musch of West Bancroft Street, has filed his petition for another four-year term, and is running unopposed.
The Holland mayor seat also is open with current Mayor Lee Irons stepping down at the end of this year. Council president Ryan Spangler has submitted a petition to run for the office, and his petition is listed as pending.
Three candidates’petitions have been declared invalid by the board of elections. They are Sandra J. Hensley of Angola Road, and Councilman Scott Brown of Weatherstone Road. Both had sought a seat on village council. Also having her petition rejected is current school board member Dr. Tanya Baldwin of Sawmill Run.
