Springfield Twp. kicks-off summer series 2025

Springfield Township will kick off its Summer Series 2025 on Saturday, June 28.

Following is a list of events with their locations and times.

•Firecracker 5K Run Walk—opening festivities at 8:45 a.m.; runners depart at 9, at Homecoming Park, 7807 Angola Road, Holland.

•HERO Hustle—approximately 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., also at Homecoming Park.

•Village Market—10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Strawberry Acres Park, 950 South Mc-Cord in Holland.

•Freedom Celebration— fireworks at dusk, Homecoming Park, 7807 Angola Road, Holland.

Thanks to the support of generous sponsors, Springfield Township Trustees have expanded their annual Freedom Celebration into an entire day packed with special memories, family fun, food and ending it with a bang as one of the areas first fireworks shows lights up the night. This will be the 20th anniversary of the celebration.

The day will open with a tribute to freedom, a memorial 5K honoring the memory of Pvt. Sterling “Butch” Rahe.

An entertaining HERO hustle will feature area celebrities—former NFL player Bryant Koback; last year’s champ Chandler Fitzgerald; Charlie Butler, Springfield Fire and Rescue; Matt Geha, Springfield Local Schools; Jim Piotrowski, Holland police chief; Lucas County Commissioner Lisa Sobecki; Ohio State Representative Erika White; Scott Wilson, Culver’s awards sponsor; Dan Smith, 13abc, and Myqueal Warren, sheriff’s department. The HERO hustle is an annual event sending dollars to selected charities. This year, hustlers chose to support one local family dealing with medical issues.

Festivities then move to Strawberry Acres Park, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., for the new Village Market, featuring artisans and vendors, then the community will again gather at Homecoming Park to end with family fun, food trucks and, of course, the exclamation point of the day will be a spectacular fireworks show at dusk.

Although there was a registration fee for 5K participants, attendance and parking are free for spectators throughout the day. The trustees express their gratitude to all heroes—past and present—for their selfless commitment to our freedom. The trustees also wish to recognize the volunteers who share their time and talents to handle the details and make each event special.

Proceeds from the entire Summer Series 2025 will benefit Springfield Township firefighter mental health initiatives and help offer scholarships for children of firefighters.
