Entering 2023, the Springfield Township trustees reviewed the last zoning report of 2022 and conducted organizational matters for this year.
Jacob Barnes, planning director, said the zoning department closed out the year in typical fashion.
There were six permits issued, collecting $780. Of those, one was for a new dwelling. Other permits were for additions, two, and co-location on tower, fencing and shed, one apiece.
“In December, it slows quite a bit,” he said.
Mr. Barnes noted the zoning commission and board of zoning appeals set meeting dates for this year. The zoning commission will meet the second Monday of each month at 5 p.m., and the BZA has scheduled its meetings for 5 p.m., the fourth Monday of the month. All meetings are subject to need.
He said the BZA met December 27, and approved a conditional use request with conditions for Aqualawn, an outdoor storage yard waste business at 1890 South Crissey Road.
The company is adjacent to Metroparks and Lucas County Port Authority properties, he pointed out.
Mr. Barnes added that in his February zoning report, he will provide the 2022 year in review.
Several organizational matters were conducted. The trustees appointed Tom Anderson Jr. as chairman of the board and Andy Glenn as vice chair.
They set remuneration of $75 per meeting for members of the zoning commission, BZA and police and park advisory boards. The trustees closed with approval of a joint cooperation agreement for drainage improvements with Lucas County. The county will reimburse the township up to $90,000.
Other Business
In other business, the trustees:
•Learned that township police patrols have begun effective January 1. One patrol car will cover areas north of Airport Highway and the other will patrol south of Airport. A third police vehicle will float throughout the township as needed.
“This is new to everyone,” Administrator Mike Hampton said, adding, “It’s a fluid situation.”
•Reviewed the conceptual drawing for a roundabout to be constructed at Frankfort and Crissey roads in 2025.
•Paid bills from January 1 to 3 of $101,905, which includes the last Ohio Public Works Commission road project payment of $53,225 to Bowers Asphalt and Paving Inc. They also approved electronic payments from December 16 to 31 of $350,624, including the biweekly payroll of $227,977.
Due to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, the next trustees meeting will be at 5 p.m., Tuesday, January 17, at the township meeting hall, 7617 Angola Road, and is open to the public. The meeting also may be viewed via live stream at springfield township.net.
