Parents can talk to their teens about the dangers of driving distracted or under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but often a speech cannot compare to an actual real-life experience.
On May 2, seniors at Springfield High School sat in the stadium as a mock crash occurred before their eyes on the football field. The exercise is part of a lead up to graduation by local law enforcement and a somber reminder to seniors who so often seem to think of themselves as indestructible.
The seniors watched as fellow classmates portrayed students whose lives were cut short after a night of post prom/graduation partying. But nothing hits home more than witnessing the tragedy. Springfield Township Fire and EMS took part in the exercise, and the vehicle was provided by Bubba’s Heavy Duty Towing. “They also removed all the fluids and glass for the student victim’s safety,” said Charles Butler Jr., battalion chief of health, wellness and safety.
