On Sunday, May 11, the Sylvania Community Orchestra will present a free concert at 4 p.m., at Lourdes University’s Franciscan Center. The concert program “Western Roundup” will feature the big sound of composer Aaron Copland, the big sky of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! and the big heart of John Williams’ “The Cowboys Overture.”
Through partnerships with youth orchestras, the young artists solo competition and multi-generational rehearsals, they strive to enrich the cultural life of the community and foster a lifetime of musical creativity for instrumentalists of all ages and levels of expertise.
The concert is dedicated to the memory of Dorothy Marie O’Connor, violinist and music advocate.
This concert is brought to the community through the support of friends and sponsors: the friends and family of Dorothy Marie O’Connor; Better Business Bureau of Toledo; Peace, Love, and Pottery Studio; Lourdes University; the Ohio Arts Council, and the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo.
This is a free event. Donations are welcomed at the door to support the Sylvania Community Orchestra’s work in the community.
The Franciscan Center is at Lourdes University, 6832 Convent Boulevard, Sylvania. For more information about the orchestra, visit them on Facebook and Instagram.
