When the war on Ukraine began on February 24, 2022, Alona Matchenko and Hope Luther, law students at the University of Toledo, mobilized to assist Ukrainians impacted by Russia’s invasion. The result was the creation of a nonprofit, Toledo Helps Ukraine (THU).
Nearly 365 days later, the bombing, killing and crimes against humanity continue in Ukraine. As the one-year mark of the conflict approaches, THU invites locals to an event welcoming Ukrainians the organization has helped to bring to safety.
The event will be held Saturday, February 25, at 1 p.m., at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church Hall, 135 Walnut Street, Rossford.
THU will provide an update on the ongoing work of the organization and offer Ukrainian refugees now living in Ohio an opportunity to meet and enjoy some camaraderie and fellowship.
Ms. Matchenko, cofounder of THU, will speak about the work of the nonprofit over the past year and its current needs, including sponsors for Ukrainians waiting to come to the United States. THU will have items available for sale to support the work of the non-profit.
Registration for this event is appreciated and can be completed online. Search Toledo Helps Ukraine on Facebook and follow the “365 Days of Welcoming Ukranian Refugees” link to sign up. For more information, visit 4UA.org.
