‘Wicked Wheels’ car show draws hundreds of enthusiasts

Springfield Local Schools held its annual Wicked Wheels car show on a picture-perfect Wednesday evening. Car enthusiasts turned out to show off their antique and classic vehicles, which were on display in the parking lots at Springfield High School. Prizes were awarded after a panel of judges reviewed each one.

Taking Best of Show was Dave Mason with his emerald green 1936 Plymouth coupe, and kid’s choice went to Dan Yanke and his pink 1947 Ford coupe with flames. Other winners were best exotic–Fritz Kunz, red 1978 Ferrari; best classic–Chris Keene, teal 1955 Ford Customline; best tuner–Ron Piasecki, 1970 black Chevy Camaro; best hot rod–Bruce Bates, 1925 Ford Model T bucket, and best race car–Matt Shipley, 2020 Domination race car with a Mullins LS7 engine.

Sponsored by Jim White Honda of Maumee, this year’s car show featured an appearance by race car driver Colin Shipley, 16, of Weston, who races in the Dirt Late Model division. The event also featured numerous raffles, food trucks and displays by area businesses and organizations. Kristina White, community liaison for Springfield Schools said the event raised more than $45,000 with proceeds going toward the district’s safety initiatives and educational opportunities.

Hundreds of area residents turned out August 7 for the annual Wicked Wheels car show held at Springfield High School and sponsored by White Dealerships.
