Toledo Express Airport is among several smaller regional airports to receive federal grant funding.
On July 13, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded eight grants to city and county governments in northwest Ohio, totaling more than $6 million.
The funds will be used to help make necessary repairs to airports and their critical infrastructure, he explained.
“Ohio airports are vital to supporting travel and commerce in the state,” said Sen. Brown. “These investments will help to ensure the safety of northwest Ohio airports for passengers for years to come.”
The airport will receive a $270,000 grant through the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority to improve structural integrity of the taxiway and minimize debris at Toledo Express.
The port authority also received a grant for $2.13 million for improvements to the structural integrity of the aviation apron, removal of an abandoned runway and reconfiguration of a taxiway to meet FAA design standards at Toledo Executive Airport, 28331 Lemoyne Road, Millbury.
Other regional airports receiving funding are:
•Erie-Ottawa Regional Airport Authority (EORAA), Erie and Ottawa counties, $1.14 million to rehabilitate existing taxi lane and improve structural integrity of aviation apron at Erie-Ottawa International Airport; a $789,461 grant to EORAA to construct two new taxi lanes to provide access to new hangars at Erie-Ottawa International, and a $59,000 grant to EORAA to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments and combatting the spread of pathogens at Erie-Ottawa International.
•Hardin County commissioners and Hardin County Airport Authority, $1.54 million to maintain the structural integrity of an aviation apron at the airport; and a $32,000 to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combatting the spread of pathogens at airport.
•Wyandot County, $22,000, and Sandusky County Regional Airport Authority and Sandusky County commissioners, $32,000, to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combatting the spread of pathogens at those airports.
The FAA supports public use airports included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) through the airport improvement program. The program supports projects that improve airport safety, capacity, security and environmental impact.
