Penta Career Center student fees have been waived for items such as workbooks, notebooks, safety glasses and other supplies that will be used during 2021-22.
The decision was made by the Penta board of education at a June 30 meeting.
According to treasurer Carrie Herringshaw, the cost is estimated at $242,177.
The board also approved waiving $105,000 in student uniform T-shirts.
After the meeting, Monica Dansack, public relations coordinator, said this year the school is providing uniform T-shirts for students instead of full uniforms of polo shirts, pants, etc.
“We did the same last year with just providing uniform T-shirts,” she explained. “This is because we did not want the uniform companies to measure each student in person for shirts and pants due to the pandemic.”
Penta plans to return to the normal uniform ordering and measuring procedures for 2022-23.
In a related matter, the board approved the transfer of $323,022 to the student enrichment fund to pay for student and staff expenses at local, state and national competitions including transportation, lodging, meals and registration.
According to Mrs. Herringshaw, the principle in the fund, managed by the Toledo Community Foundation, remains untouched while the interest is used each year for expenses.
