Food service

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has extended its program for all school districts to offer free breakfast and lunch meals to all students each school day, a program that began last school year. This meal program will last until May 26, 2022, or while the USDA funds are available.

Please note that a la carte milk and snacks are not part of this free meal plan.

Note that the “Fee Waiver Application and Free or Reduced-Price School Meal Application” is still used for the consideration of the waiving of fees/assessments for Springfield Local Schools, so those who may qualify should submit this application for the purpose of the waiver of fees for the 2021-22 school year. Also, if the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program were to be extended, families may receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits if this application has been completed. Contact your student’s school for more information.

Remember that while students may bring their own meals to school each day, the delivery of food, by an outside delivery service, is not permitted. They are able to again allow a family member to deliver an individual meal for their student.

Springfield Schools will strive to maintain distancing of three-feet in cafeterias and areas hosting student meals (if lines are present and when seated to eat).

The schools are pleased to share that the requirement that they only serve single-use items or packaged meals has been lifted, and they can again return to offering students the hot, nutritious meals they enjoy at school. Breakfast and lunch menus are now posted on line for service beginning August 16 through September 10.

Cafeteria/food service surfaces will be cleaned between each lunch period.
