Blue Devils no match for Blue Streaks in home opener

A hopeful start to the Northern Lakes League football season quickly gave way to disappointment as all but one team, Southview, suffered defeat at the hands of their opponents. And the Springfield Blue Devils were no exception.

After receiving the kick off, Springfield looked primed and ready, gaining yardage on their opening play against Sandusky. That momentum abruptly halted with the Blue Streaks living up to their name. They dominated, stuffing Springfield’s offense throughout the evening, while the Blue Devil defense endured the opposite problem. They were unable to contain Sandusky’s offensive line, which took Springfield on a roller coaster ride, running the ball up and down the field each quarter and scoring on numerous possessions. By halftime, the game was already out of reach at 31-0, and when the clock counted down the final seconds of the fourth quarter, the scoreboard read 45-0.

Right, quarterback Michael Franklin–a headache for Springfield all evening–scrambles up the sideline as defensive back Kasen Knapp prepares to knock him out of bounds. Below, the SHS marching band plays the fight song as the Blue Devils crash through their new tunnel and onto the field prior to game time.
