A business owner interested in moving a daycare business into the Village of Holland prompted council to amend the zoning code as it pertains to childcare facilities.
At the September 7 meeting, Leslie Ferman, zoning administrator, said the current zoning code allows child care type A facilities as a conditional use in the M1 light industrial district.
“After researching surrounding communities, I found it is feasible to add child care facilities as a conditional use in a B2 general business district,” she explained.
Ms. Ferman said the planning commission recommends that council add terminology to the M1 district conditional use, stipulating that childcare be provided in a residence.
Council unanimously agreed to amend the zoning code to include child care centers as a conditional use in the B2 general business district and to add child care centers as a conditional use in the M1 district. They also removed child care type A facilities from the M1 light industrial district as suggested by the zoning commission.
