Young musicians will bring live music back to the University of Toledo Glass Bowl, 2801 Bancroft Street, Toledo, on Saturday, October 2, as Springfield High School joins high school marching bands from Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Michigan to compete in the 2021 Bands of America (BOA) Northwest Ohio Regional Championship, presented by Yamaha.
BOA championships are the premier marching band events in the nation and feature live music, choreography and competition.
Hosted by the University of Toledo, the event will feature the Blue Devil Marching Band along with 18 other high school marching bands in the preliminary competition. Bands will be evaluated by a panel of nationally recognized music educators and marching band experts. The top 12 scoring bands will advance to the evening finals competition.
The event also will include an exhibition performance by the University of Toledo Rocket Marching Band.
BOA marching band championships are taking place nationwide this fall and provide life-changing experiences for students, teachers and fans.
BOA Championships return in 2021 after the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The enthusiastic return of the bands performing at this championship is a testament to the resilience, dedication and hard work of these young student musicians, their teachers, school administrators, parents and families,” said Dr. Jeremy Earnhart, president and CEO of Music for All.
In addition to this competition, two other BOA Championships will take place in Ohio this fall in Obetz and Dayton.
The BOA season concludes with the Bands of America Grand National Championships, presented by Yamaha and the U.S. Marines, in Indianapolis November 11 to 13.
