Taking advantage of great weather (who knew what would happen just a few hours later), close to 400 smiling Springfield Middle School sixth to eighth grade students gathered after school on October 8 to help start a new tradition—SMS’s firstever “Fall Ball.” Hosted around Springfield Community Stadium and sponsored by the SMS Science Olympiad team, we’re pretty certain that this could become an annual event. The dance was hugely successful, as our middle school students were clearly ready and waiting for such a social event to take place—they are still talking about all the fun that was found in just two short hours.
With music by DJ Leo, attendees shed some of their everlasting energy on the dance floor while enjoying various concessions and chatting with friends. We even had a book bag valet/checkin service provided by the event hosts. We’d like to send out a huge thank you to all of the teachers, administrators and resource officers who volunteered to chaperone the dance, ensuring a safe and positive vibe was enjoyed by all.
Will there be a seasonal return of the fall ball? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure, the famous fall favorite pumpkin spice latte may have met its match. Happy fall y’all. Science Olympiad was able to raise more than $2,000, which will continue to support their award winning program.
