On October 9, the Springfield Township Fire Department recognized fallen firefighters and lifetime department members at the 20th memorial service. The service, held at Station No. 51 on McCord Road, began with the presentation of colors, above, by the Springfield High School JROTC followed by the playing of the National Anthem.
Fire Chief Barry Cousino delivered remarks, reminding residents why it is important to recognize firefighters past and present for their service.
The names of all fallen firefighters were read and the last bell rung by Battalion Chief Tim Romstadt, below. Added to this year’s list were Douglas Carpenter, Ronald Houser and Roy Showman.
The ceremony also featured a moment of silence, the playing of Taps and “Amazing Grace” with the presentation of the wreath at the memorial. Following the memorial, residents were invited to tour the station and view the apparatus and equipment.
