With the holidays just around the corner, the timing could not be more perfect for the arrival of a new Christmas tree for the Village of Holland. The tree, donated by Duke Wheeler of Whitehouse Christmas Tree Farm, was uprooted October 22 and taken to a centralized location between the gazebo and lodge at Strawberry Acres park where it was carefully placed in a pre-dug hole. Hollow Log Farms of Pemberville, below, removes the Fraser fir from the farm, transporting it to the park. With spot-on precision, the truck was backed up to the hole, above left, and the tree gently lowered into the ground, right.
The move did not go “without a few blips,” said Mayor Lee Irons, noting the original location for the pine was altered slightly after the tree hauler struck an underground electrical cable that the village did not realize was buried there. The line is being repaired, the mayor added.
Mayor Irons said removal and transporting of the fir was made possible by Keith Walker of Walker Funeral Homes, and expressed appreciation to both men for their generosity.
