Springfield High School has begun collections for the seventh annual Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital Toy Drive.
Since 2015, the high school has donated almost 40,000 toys and more than $6,300 to not only help brighten a child’s holiday but put a smile on their faces throughout the year.
Any child from birth to age 18 who is admitted, undergoing tests or in the emergency room receives some sort of toy to brighten their day a little more.
“As parents of two children who have been on the receiving side of this toy drive multiple times, seeing their smile helps parents just as much during a very difficult time,” said instructor McKenna Reitz.
Due to the pandemic, organizers are collecting very specific items this year. The list includes Barbies, Lego sets under $10 and classic board games.
High school classes are currently engaged in a competition to determine who can collect the most toys.
“We also are collecting money,” explained Ms. Reitz. “For every $50 someone donates their name will be entered into a raffle to win prizes such as Calphalon cookware sets, a round of golf for four at Highland Meadows Golf Club, a night out in Toledo and more.
